Vinyl Pools
Vinyl swimming pools can be the most inexpensive in-ground pool option available to you. Vinyl pool installation is quick, and can be done in a few days. Your pool contractor will install a plastic, metal or wood based structure in an excavated hole, and then lay sand in the bottom of the hole. A vinyl lining is then placed around the hole. These kinds of pools are not just easy and inexpensive to install, but also affordable to maintain. For instance, vinyl pools are easy to clean because they don't absorb algae.
Vinyl pool may not be as long lasting as fiberglass or gunite pools. The liner may need replacing after a period of time. Also, in rare cases, a badly installed wood structure can begin to rot, leading to more expenses. If you are considering a vinyl pool installation, compare features and cost advantages with other pool types before making a decision. Some areas of the country may be more suitable to vinyl pools than others, like mid western cities. Vinyl pools can also handle freeze-thaw weather cycles without suffering any damage. They can also be easy to clean, because they don't encourage algae penetration. Any repairs that are involved with torn or damaged linings are usually inexpensive. Installation of a vinyl pool is also less expensive.
On the negative side, vinyl pools may not be as durable as gunite or fiberglass pools. The liner may have to be replaced after every 10 years, although replacing the liner is less expensive, than the kind of maintenance involved in maintaining a gunite pool. Vinyl swimming pools cannot be finished in ceramic tiles, and may not allow you to add special water features. The lining may be susceptible to tearing by sharp objects. Extreme water acidity can also damage the lining. If you are looking for elaborate shapes for your swimming pool, you may find that the panel shapes offer limited design options. Vinyl swimming pools are ideal if you are looking for a good basic swimming pool with no bells and whistles.
